As the new REAL ALLOY Health, Safety, and Environmental Specialist, you will drive and develop a culture of safety first. You will manage all aspects of employee health and safety and site environmental compliance and continuous improvement to advance Real Alloy HSE programs, processes, and systems. The position will collaborate with site leaders and is responsible for activities and actions that maximize the safety of all employees, contractors and visitors and supports the proactive adherence to environmental performance standards. This is a boots on the ground role at our Mississauga plant facility.

As Co-Chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee, you will lead workplace inspections and Gemba walks, assist supervisors with monthly safety meetings, and develop and deliver training programs to ensure compliance with Company HSE requirements and local regulations. You’ll collaborate to identify HSE improvement opportunities, maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, and conduct orientation training for new employees and contractors. Ensuring environmental compliance, providing technical oversight on HSE regulations, and staying updated on all aspects of HSE compliance are key responsibilities. You’ll support report preparation and submission, injury reporting to WSIB, and emergency response efforts. Additionally, you’ll conduct HSE incident investigations, risk assessments, and participate in special projects with Corporate HSE. Supporting life-safety programs, providing HSE-related change management review, and assisting with capital requests are also part of the role.
To qualify for this role, you need a Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in HSE, science, or engineering) and a minimum of five years of experience as an HSE Specialist. You should have experience with HSE Management Systems, HSE risk assessments, and be familiar with continuous improvement tools like Six Sigma or Lean Sigma. Proficiency in HSE data tracking software and LMS systems is required, along with effective use of MS Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint). Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to interpret government regulations.
