Overview

REAL ALLOY is the market leader in third-party aluminum recycling and specification alloy production.  We have 17 plants strategically located across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.  We convert aluminum scrap and by-products into reusable aluminum metal for a growing number of applications across various industries. Responsibilities

As the new REAL ALLOY Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager, you will drive and develop a culture of safety first. You will manage all aspects of employee health and safety and site environmental compliance and continuous improvement to advance Real Alloy HSE programs, processes, and systems.  The position is part of the site leadership team and is responsible for activities and actions that maximize the safety of all employees, contractors, and visitors and leads proactive adherence to environmental performance standards.

HSE Manager responsibilities include:

  • Lead site Health, Safety and Environmental improvement plan development and execution.
  • Conduct daily walk-arounds on the plant floor.
  • Co-Chair the facility’s Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Lead monthly workplace inspections.
  • Assist department supervisors with the development and delivery of monthly safety meetings.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to ensure compliance with Company HSE requirements as well as local provincial regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager, Corporate HSE and facility personnel in identifying HS&E opportunities for improvement and the subsequent development/implementation of corrective/preventive action plans.
  • Communicate and maintain professional relationships with provincial and federal regulatory agency contacts.
  • Review, maintain and comply with all environmental permits.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance regarding issues involving compliance with relevant provincial and federal HSE regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations and compliance reporting.
  • Prepare and submit all required reports and permit applications including but not limited to air, water, waste and other applicable environmental requirements.
  • Report injuries when needed.
  • Conduct and document HSE incident investigations and cause analysis events. Develop and implement required corrective/preventive action plans.
  • Lead HSE risk assessments, PPE assessments and the development of action plans to reduce hazard exposure.
  • Identify and manage the Industrial Health & Hygiene (IH) program.

 

 

Qualifications

HSE Manager

  • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university (preferably science, engineering or health, safety and environment management)
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience as a Health, Safety and Environment Management.
  • Experience with Health, Safety and Evironment Management Systems and HSE risk assessments.
  • Background in continuous improvement tools and techniques such as six sigma / lean sigma is preferred.
  • Experience with computer applications, such as spreadsheets, word processing documents, databases, email programs and electronic data reporting systems, e.g., Microsoft applications and SharePoint.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with WSIB and managing WSIB claims.
  • Possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations.
  • Creativity and innovation for implementation of new HSE programs and for creating employee engagement.
  • Capability of managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work variable hours, be on call and travel occasionally (<15%).
