Responsibilities

 

As our Temporary Plant Controller, you will be responsible for all accounting activities at our Mississauga location within the Real Alloy North American Business Unit.  This is an on-site position and is accountable for the direction and supervision of the accounting functions as well as assisting in operational support activities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Supervise and direct the ongoing activities associated with daily accounting procedures, the monthly close process, and the annual close within our Oracle and Hyperion accounting software.  The Mississauga site is a CAD functional site but reports in both CAD and USD.
  • Prepare annual and monthly budgets/forecasts and related financial analysis.
  • Interact with plant management, business unit management and corporate staff on financial, accounting, and administrative matters. Respond to data/financial requests as needed.
  • Provide technical direction for the accounts payable and receivable functions including customer invoicing, cash application, P.O. and vendor invoice processing, receipt of goods and related activities.  Review account coding and assist in new vendor adds.
  • Prepare and file all monthly and annual taxes, including monthly GST/HST tax with support from the corporate Tax department.
  • Responsible for all local cash management.
  • Reconcile material flow from receipts, through the production process to finished goods and then to the customers.
  • In adherence with company policy co-lead quarterly physical inventory and oversee quarterly spare parts and asset inventories.
  • Assist in the preparation of Authorization for Expenditures for capital improvement projects and submit for approval.
  • Responsible to audit, track, and report the project spend and KPI’s.
  • Assist with activities for plant and corporate internal, external, government, and banking audits.
  • Assist in operational and accounting policy and procedure writing, implementation of plant accounting control procedures, ensure the reliability of data, and comply with general accepted accounting principles and company policies.
  • Assist in plant productivity activities to use standard calculations and reporting for the plant savings initiatives.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
  • 4-5 years’ experience in a similar Finance or Controller role is required. 
  • An advanced Degree is a plus, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Canadian Tax knowledge and familiarity with local compliance law.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and other MS Office software.  Experience in Oracle or Hyperion.
  • Proven ability to function with minimal supervision while also leading others toward plant and company goals.  Results and detail oriented.
  • Creativity and openness for implementation of new procedures or programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Willingness to be part of a team mentality and approach for the North American business unit.
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively and efficiently to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Some occasional travel may be required. (5%)

 

Work Environment

  • The work environment is an office setting but will be required to enter the manufacturing environment from time to time. 
  • Manufacturing environment may include exposure to high temperatures and humidity, as well as exposure to fumes, airborne particles, dirt, dust, and grease, and moderate to high noise level areas.
  • Noise level in the office work environment is moderate to low.
  • Position may require use of personal protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and as needed, respiration, rubber steel-toed boots, protective clothing, gloves, and other equipment when in the manufacturing areas.
